Giacomo Puccini, the Italian master of melody and emotion, left a lasting impact on the world of opera. In honor of his 100th death anniversary, he is given special prominence in this year's opera program.

The 100th birthday of Maria Callas is also being celebrated posthumously. As one of the most significant sopranos of the 20th century, she shaped the opera world, particularly through her interpretations of Puccini's operas. Both icons are being honored with a special premiere: Elīna Garanča will debut the moving aria "O ma lyre immortelle" from Gounod's opera "Sapho" in the setting of Kitzbühel.

These two outstanding figures in opera history are being duly honored in the program through performances of their works.
